Halloween Sensory Bag!

The holiday season is just around the corner, and what better way to kick things off than with a festive Halloween-themed sensory bag activity? This simple DIY is a great way to keep your little ones entertained while engaging their senses—perfect for a spooky, yet mess-free, activity at home!

This is best to prepare same day as the beans slowly start to absorb moisture. Although the beans do not break down, the black permanent marker starts to fade. If you want this activity to last all month, you could substitute in little ghost trinkets, like ghost erasers.

What You'll Need:

  • Gallon ziplock bag

  • Clear hair gel

  • Black permanent marker

  • Duct tape

  • Dry white beans

  • Ms. Simon Says maze printable link above ☝️

How to Make It:

  1. Fill a ziplock bag with clear hair gel (about 10 ounces).

  2. Using a permanent marker, draw ghost faces on both sides of white beans.

  3. Put ghost beans and a ~10oz. bottle of clear hair gel into a strong gallon freezer bag.

  4. Get rid of the air, seal the bag, and tape all sides well to avoid any leaks

    • I personally just duct tape the top.

  5. Tape maze activity page 1 or 2 onto a flat surface

    • I found maze one was great for my 2 year old and my older girls enjoyed maze two.

  6. Finally, tape the filled sensory bag on top of the chosen maze

    • I find taping all four sides of the sensory bag down onto a table works best. The bag is secure so your child can easily push the beans around without the bag moving all over the place.

  7. Let your little one move the ghosts through the maze.

Benefits of Sensory Play:

Sensory bags are a wonderful way to improve your child's fine motor skills, encourage creativity, and spark their imagination. Plus, it’s a great way to introduce the holiday season with a fun, low prep, mess-free activity they’ll love! I call that a win! Happy spooky season! 🎃
